Draw together!

A place to draw.
A place to belong.

Everyone can draw • Everyone is welcome •

Come as you are. Draw what you like.

Take your time.

No lessons, no pressure.

and absolutely no need to be ‘good at art’!

The Drawing Room is a proposed drop-in drawing space in the heart of Exeter: somewhere to make marks, notice things, unwind, meet people or simply enjoy being quietly creative alongside others.

We believe drawing isn't only for artists. It's a way to slow down, pay attention, play, imagine and connect. Bring a friend or come on your own. Pick up a pencil and see what happens.

There'll be interesting things to draw, prompts if you'd like them, and room for your own ideas, from buildings and botanicals to cartoons, characters and completely imaginary worlds.

Draw together in Exeter

Make room for drawing

We're developing an eight-week trial in Exeter for spring 2027, with the hope of creating a permanent home for The Drawing Room in the future.

We're exploring a simple £10 day admission, affordable after-school access and opportunities for people to sponsor community places. We also hope to bring together eight special drawing experiences during the trial.

We're not open yet. The location, dates, opening hours and prices are still being developed. This site is a first introduction to the idea.

Interested in visiting, collaborating, donating materials or supporting the pilot? We'd love to hear from you.

The experience

A little more than a table and a pencil.

  • Drop in and draw

Unhurried, untutored drawing sessions with shared materials and paper to get you started.

  • Draw together

Join a shared table, make something side by side, or enjoy your own quiet creative time.

  • Draw Exeter

Changing invitations inspired by local places, seasonal plants, nature and the city around us.

Close Up / Preparing red meat on the barbecue grill.
  • Monthly zine

A small publication celebrating drawings, creative discoveries and the people who make them.

  • Share materials

A community library of donated, usable drawing materials to try, share and give a new life.

  • Special occassions

Occasional artist-led experiences: life drawing, drawing music, poetry, painting and sketching excursions.

Made for the curious.

Not just the confident.

Some of our favourite drawing moments have come from people who thought they couldn't draw at all. In previous community drawing projects, strangers became conversation partners, children and adults drew together, and people stayed far longer than they expected.

We want The Drawing Room to be somewhere teenagers feel welcome after school, where different generations can create alongside one another, and where everyone has a way to take part.

We're exploring affordable youth access, supported places and opportunities for people to help shape the zine and the studio.
